Songbook Dec. 14th!

Save the date, folks. December 14th at 2:30 Kevin Massey and Kara Lindsay (romantic leads of the new Little House On the Prairie Musical) will be premiering my brand-new song for the holidays.

I've written a new song or arrangement for Christmas every year since I was 12 and over the years they've gotten less religious. For example, last year I took "Deck the Halls" and made it "Gay Apparel" featuring the drag queen of the year, Miss Peppermint. So this year, I've gone back to good ole romance with "Mistletoe Manipulation" -- though I'm still using a sprinkle of curse words, sorry. Can't seem to get through this season with out at least one *#$!!!

This concert also includes many great new songs by tomorrow's Broadway composers, including the recent Fred Ebb winner Adam Gwon. Check it out.

PLUS: A big oops! I got so busy that I forgot to post about the last concert. It was another Songbook at Lincoln Center, October 27th. Thanks to Kevin Massey for doing an exciting and hilarious performance of "Double Dare" -- one of my halloween songs -- in which he had to sing and vomit simultaneously!

It will be shown as a part of the opening reception party for artist Lisa Ingram's solo exhibition called Visual Conversations. She's an amazing artist and I like her so much I married her. EVIL EYE in production

Strange, the odd connections in life. My first New York City apartment was near Edgar Allan Poe street on the Upper West Side, where the famous writer apparently resided (briefly) in the mid-1800s. We also share a middle name and an affinity for dark and twisted tales, so naturally one of my early musicalized works had to be based on a Poe story. Composed almost 20 years ago and first produced by Lou Levy at my NY debut show, EVIL EYE is my take on The Tell-Tale Heart -- a tale of man driven insane by the sounds in his head: which is my life essentially now that deafness causes me to hear mostly the ringing of my own ears! However, it is much fun to be filming a new version of my old score just blocks away from Poe's street, and I'm blessed to be working with the amazing Dirk Weiler and adventurous producer Ben Pitts. Check back soon -- I plan to screen a rough cut here in NYC for Halloween. Moo-ho-hahahahahaha!!!!

R O B O T I C U S

Here's some excerpts from my new art installation / performance work, Roboticus, debuted at LEMURplex March 28, 2008. The
residency was fantastic and I learned a ton. It's very hard to capture the piece on video as the robots filled the room, but this gives you an idea.

ROBOTS!

Let's see, so far this season I've worked with aerialists, Broadway singers, opera voices, rock n' rollers, a drag queen, and now -- ROBOTS! Those of you who saw my Incredibly Deaf Musical in DC heard me mention how I'd rather be composing for robots than singing about becoming deaf. Well now my dream has come true. Here is my new friend, the GuitarBot.

It was created by the folks at www.lemurbots.org, who are letting me play with all of their bots via a March residency. Come see the concert March 28th at the LEMURPLEX in Brooklyn. I'm attempting to create my very first "visual symphony" while playing with all the cool toys.

space, time, and imovie

it's amazing what one can create with a laptop camera, imovie, and wiki commons. We've come a long way from my first mac, an SE, with serial ports. Here's my latest visual exploration -- it's a bit "trippy" -- but a fun way to share one of my scores with you. See if you can guess what the opening sound is...
